In his Metro column, Colin Murray says he can?t help being a little over-excited about his home nation Northern Ireland possibly winning an Olympic gold in the next 24 hours. Instead we all unite behind the simple abbreviation ?GB & NI?. But that doesn?t rule out Cornwall being extra excited about Helen Glover, or Londoners flying the flag for Bradley Wiggins. In fact, in the case of the brilliant Wiggo, the proud people of Ghent, Belgium, should raise a glass too. So, you can forgive me for being a little over-excited at the possibility of my little country doubling their all-time Olympic gold-medal tally in the space of 24 hours. Until London 2012, we?ve had to live a little on past glory, with two hockey players from 1988, Jimmy Kirkwood and Steve ?Sam? Martin, and, of course, one of the seven Olympians selected to nominate a young star to light the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony ?
